Indian Cultural Center in Maldives have started Urdu language courses. The course was officially inaugurated on 19th of this month.
Indian Ambassador to Maldives, Akhilesh Mishra said that Urdu is a rich language and that Dhivehi has its root in Urdu as well. For a long time, Maldivian religious scholars studied in Urdu.
Many Maldivians also watch Hindi movies and TV series. Many can speak Hindi and hence if they take part in Urdu classes it will be an added advantage. The classes are conducted free of charge and both written and spoken Urdu are taught in the classes.
