Chairman of Villa Group, Qasim Ibrahim have stated that the government is trying to bankrupt Villa not because he committed any crime, but because past elections were won by candidates supported by him. Qasim made this statement in a letter sent to staffs of Villa Group.


Qasim said that dictators are afraid of the fact that the side supported by him wins in the elections. He said that the government is intimidating Villa Group to prevent him from doing work that is beneficial for the nation. He said that the 3-year jail sentence on him is also proof of that.


In addition he said that there is a shadow over the businesses of Villa and the staffs of Villa are facing the burden of this. Qasim said that the problems Villa is facing today is not because of any unlawful activities on Villa’s side.


Furthermore, he said that Villa has been paying taxes and other fees regularly. He said that there were agreements with Villa and the government and it was the government which violated the agreements. Qasim said that the actions of the government against Villa is totally unjust.


Qasim said that while the cases were in court, the government froze Villa’s accounts, stopped all the services given by customs and immigration. He said that Villa faced immense difficulties as a result.


Qasim praised the staffs of Villa in his letter and said that they are truthful and honest staffs. He said that he always prioritizes treating his staffs in the best possible manner.


Qasim said that his political work is not for position and power, but he wants a better day for the people of Maldives.
