President Maumoon have said that now they are not only working to over throw the current government but also working to ensure that no government in future can be oppressive.

Speaking at a rally held last night by the opposition, Maumoon said that no one wishes for an oppressive government and the government established in Maldives should be an Islamic government. He said that if not, again all the things we see today will be repeated.

“We want things to be organized in a manner that no future government can be oppressive. That is what we want. There should be an Islamic government in the Maldives. The most basic principle of an Islamic government is justice and sincerity” said Maumoon.

Maumoon said that Faaris Maumoon was in jail for 191 days and also said that he was in jail for 50 days during President Nasir’s regime.

In addition he said that even if an election is held no one knows how the results is going to be and hence changes should be brought even before that. “Just now someone said that we will win the election. I also want that. Ibrahim Mohammed Solih said something better. That is we will bring changes even before that” said Maumoon.

Furthermore Maumoon said that reform can be brought by allowing parliament members to work. He said that what they want can be achieved through parliament sessions.
