Construction work of the new sea plane terminal and maintenance facility of Velana International Airport has begun.
In a ceremony held yesterday to begin the work, the MD of MACL Aadhil Moosa said that this is part of the airport development project aiming to cater for 7.5 million passengers annually. He said that this project is very important because Maldives has the largest sea plane fleet in the world.
Aadhil said that the terminal developed under this project will be two times larger than the terminal that is being used by Island Aviation and TMA. He said that when all services are given under one roof, the services will be more perfect. In addition he said that the terminal is designed in such a way that it can be expanded in future and hence if needed it can be easily developed.
