Criminal Court has decided not to give Faaris Maumoon the opportunity to do a forensic investigation of the evidence presented against him.

Previously the state did not refuse to allow him to do a forensic investigation by a third party however today the state denied allowing him to do it. The lawyer of PG said that everyone will not have the funds to do it and hence they do not give that chance to anyone. Faaris Maumoon’s legal team also presented the information of the three independent parties they planned to hire to investigate the evidence.

Judge Ali Adam said that it cannot be allowed since there are no other parties that can investigate evidence in Maldives and also there are no procedures where evidence in the custody of police can be given to a third party.

The state is charging Faaris for offering bribes to parliament members. He was detained for more than 6 months and released last Thursday. However he was again arrested within todays and this time the state suspects him of plotting to overthrow the government.
