Under the powers vested on him by Article 116 of the Constitution, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has established a Maldivian Embassy in Thailand, effective on 30 January 2018. The Embassy will be administered under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Embassy was established in an effort to increase the Maldives’ presence in the international arena, as part of the Maldives’ foreign policy; to further enhance ties between the Maldives and Thailand and to open more investment and business related opportunities in both countries.
