India has called the government of Maldives to implement the Supreme Court verdict ordering to free political prisoners and ordering to reinstate the MPs who were unseated by the parliament.

A statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry of India states they have seen the court verdict and that it is important that the Maldivian authorities implement the court order.

In addition it stated that as the closest neighbor to Maldives, India wants peace and stability in the Maldives. The statement also said that they are closely monitoring the situation.
