In recent history of Maldives the most serious case of unlawful detention was the illegal detention of Criminal court judge by former President Nasheed in 2012. Lawyers are saying that starting from 1st February 9 people are being illegally detained by the current administration.
When Criminal Court Judge Abdullah Mohammed was detained in 2012, Nasheed said that they were doing it in accordance with the law. Even now the President is saying the same.
In 2012 the international community called the government to respect the laws. Even now the international community is urging to do the same.
Supreme Court of the Maldives also issued an order to free Abdullah Mohammed. Even now the Supreme Court issued a similar order.
Lawyers are noting the legal problems in this case and they are talking about the consequences that will arise if the government refuses to obey the court order.
