British Ambassador to Maldives James Dauris have stated that even though Maldives has announced a state of emergency the authorities have not even come close to explaining how the current situation constitutes a threat to the life of the nation.

James Dauris said that there are high thresholds by the international community to curtail rights under state of emergency. President Yameen said that he announced the state of emergency to hold the judges accountable and to investigate their corruption.

Meanwhile the opposition states that the government announced the state of emergency to not to implement the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February and say that it is not a reason to announce a state of emergency.
