Government fails to get Pakistan’s support for the state of emergency

Pakistani government refuses to support the state of emergency in Maldives. Many countries in the world has been calling the government of Maldives to revoke the state of emergency. President Yameen sent envoys to three countries to explain the situation in Maldives.
Foreign Minister of Maldives Dr.Asim went to Pakistan, while Fisheries Minister Dr.Shainee went to Saudi Arabia and Economic Minister Saeed went to China. Foreign Minister Asim met with the PM of Pakistan Shahid Haqqan Abbasi. According to Pakistani media, the Pakistani PM told Maldivian Foreign Minister that they do not support the state of emergency in Maldives.
Quoting a senior Pakistani government official, a Pakistani newspaper reported that the PM of Pakistan Abbasi told FM Asim that it was him who voiced against former Pakistani PM Parvez Muhsarraf who announced a state of emergency and took action against the judges. Abbasi then asked how he can support a similar decision by the government of Maldives.
Pakistani officials also stated that they will not intervene in the domestic affairs of Maldives and that they have a non-interventionist foreign policy. They also said that they will follow the UN charter on matters like this. Even though various Pakistani outlets reported about the meeting between Pakistani PM and Maldivian FM, the government of Maldives has not yet made any statements.
