Defense Minister Mariya Didi have said that the helicopters given by India to Maldives will not be returned and that it is not the culture of Maldivians to return gifts by friends.
This was reported by an Indian newspaper. Furthermore it says that the helicopters are important in search and rescue operations and in medical evacuations.
The helicopters were given for free and all the maintenance costs are also covered by India. However because President Yameen had bad relations with India he tried to return the helicopters which further worsened the relations.
