Supreme Court revokes Imran’s jail verdict

Supreme Court of the Maldives has revoked Sheikh Imran’s jail verdict. Home Minister Imran was sentenced to 12 years in jail by the Criminal Court in 2015.

He was convicted of terrorism and even the High Court upheld the ruling. When the case was appealed at the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court threw the case out without even registering it.

However, after Imran requested to review the jail verdict the court agreed to do so and today the court has ruled to revoke the jail verdict. Imran was appointed as the home minister before the verdict was revoked and hence some people criticized the decision.

Three judges presided over the case and the decision to revoke the verdict was unanimous.
