Speaking today at the parliament sessions some MPs noted that corruption cannot be stopped if it is talked about only once in 5 years when a presidential term is over.
They said that upon the conclusion of a presidential term, everyone talks about corruption, but it stops after around 6 months. They said that no one talks about it for the remainder of the term.
Many noted that corruption is becoming normalized and those who are involved in corrupt acts are rarely punished. It takes years for the PG to prosecute someone even after the anti-corruption commission files a case. Additionally it takes years for the courts to make decision regarding a case.
As a result, criminals go unpunished for years. For instance the cases highlighted by the audit reports of 2008 were never investigated.
