Umar Naseer to protest to kick out the Indian Army personnel stationed in the Maldives

Former Home Minister of the Maldives Umar Naseer have stated that the next largest protest in the Maldives will be to kick out the Indian Army personnel stationed in the Maldives.

Umar Naseer posted on Facebook criticizing foreign minister Abdullah Shahid saying that he lied about the Indian helicopters in the Maldives. Foreign Minister Shahid said that the government of Maldives has full control over the helicopters used by the Indian Army in the Maldives. Umar said that he spoke to three defence ministers of the Maldives and all three of them told him that the government of Maldives has no control over the helicopters.

He further said that the Indians will train MNDF pilots to use the helicopters if their intentions are good. The helicopters were brought to Maldives during President Nasheed’s administration and as per the agreement, they were supposed to train MNDF pilots to use the helicopters. However they have not trained a single MNDF pilot and Indian Army personnel continue to operate the helicopters.

Former Home Minister Umar played a key role in organizing the protests against GMR, an Indian company which managed Velana International Airport.
