Former President Mohammed Nasheed has secured the MDP ticket for Mahchan Goalhi Medhu constituency.
Nasheed won MDP’s primary by contesting against Aishath Alaika. The preliminary results show that Nasheed got 250 votes while Alaika got 52 votes.
Mahchan Goalhi Medhu is the smallest constituency in Male’ area.
Nasheed was a member of parliament in early 2000s. He won one of the two seats for Male’. However he was convicted of crime and he lost his seat in 2001.
His supporters claim that Nasheed was convicted at the time under the orders of former President Maumoon.
