Maldives Ready to Deepen Economic Cooperation with Pakistan, Says Minister Saeed

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Pakistan, pledging to work closely with the Pakistani Government and business community to achieve shared trade goals and strengthen bilateral economic relations.

Speaking at the opening of the Maldives–Pakistan Business Forum in Islamabad, Minister Saeed emphasised the importance both countries attach to developing stronger, sustainable and mutually beneficial economic partnerships.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its warm welcome and hospitality, noting that the high-level engagement between the leaders of the two countries demonstrated their shared determination to build lasting economic ties.

Highlighting the ambitious trade target agreed upon by the two countries, Minister Saeed said the Maldives and Pakistan aim to increase bilateral trade from approximately USD 13 million to USD 200 million over the next two years. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ readiness to work alongside Pakistan to turn this goal into reality.

Minister Saeed also underscored the importance of the business forum in connecting investors and business leaders from both countries. He said the presentations and discussions would offer participants valuable insights into the Maldives’ investment climate, priority economic sectors and emerging commercial opportunities.

Encouraging representatives from the private sectors of both countries to actively engage in the forum, the Minister urged them to identify areas of shared interest, explore potential investments and establish stronger business partnerships.

The Maldives–Pakistan Business Forum is part of a broader Government initiative to promote foreign investment through business forums organised in countries visited by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his official overseas trips.

These forums serve as platforms for bringing together Maldivian and international business communities, showcasing investment opportunities in the Maldives and providing information on major development projects planned by the Government.

Held in Islamabad during President Muizzu’s visit to Pakistan, the forum reflects the Maldives’ continued efforts to expand international business partnerships, attract foreign investment and strengthen economic cooperation with key partner countries.
