The International Islamic University Islamabad has conferred an honorary doctorate on Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Maldives and his efforts to advance the country’s national interests on the international stage.
The special award ceremony was held at the official residence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, during President Muizzu’s ongoing state visit to Pakistan with First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. The honour was presented to the President by the university’s Vice President, Professor Dr Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh.
Among the key reasons cited for conferring the honorary degree were President Muizzu’s service to the nation through political leadership, his role in accelerating the Maldives’ development, and his efforts to strengthen relations with other countries. The university also recognised his leadership in representing the Maldives on the international stage.
This marks the second time President Muizzu has received such a prestigious honour from an internationally recognised Islamic university.
During his official visit to Malaysia last year, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) conferred on him an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, in recognition of his Islamic leadership and contributions to civilisational development.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are currently undertaking a state visit to Pakistan, which has brought relations between the two countries to a new level. As part of efforts to expand bral cooperation across a range of sectors, the two countries exchanged agreements covering 20 important areas.
