More than 40 Chinese companies participate
Forum to hold key discussions on strengthening business ties
The China–Maldives Investment Cooperation Forum has commenced, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu officiating the opening ceremony. The forum is being held on the sidelines of the National Productivity Expo.
More than 100 participants are attending the forum, which is taking place in Barcelona, Spain, including representatives from over 40 Chinese companies. Five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening business ties are scheduled to be signed during the event.
The one-day forum has been organised jointly by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Chinese Embassy. The ministry has stated that the forum will facilitate a range of initiatives to further strengthen business relations between the Maldives and China.
The Maldivian government is undertaking various efforts to create favourable opportunities for foreign investment in the country. As part of these initiatives, business forums are organised in countries visited by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on official trips abroad.
These forums bring together Maldivian business representatives and their counterparts from other countries to share information about investment opportunities in the Maldives and major projects planned by the government.
The current administration has so far conducted business forums in seven countries: China, the United Arab Emirates, India, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Pakistan. Forums have also been held in three cities in India.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, these forums have contributed to an increase in the number of parties seeking information about investment opportunities in the Maldives, as well as the number of investors registering their investments in the country.
