EC’s decision of expelling members was an unlawful decision which challenged the verdict of the Supreme Court : Abdullah Riyaz
Abdullah Riyaz the MP for Kinbidhoo constituency have said that the decision made by the Elections Commission to expel 6 parliament members is unlawful and it is a crime committed by the commission challenging the verdict of the Supreme Court.

Speaking to the press at M.Kunooz Riyaz said that they did it after wrongly interpreting the verdict of the Supreme Court and it was done by the Deputy Speaker, Moosa Manik. He said that based on what the Supreme Court has done before in similar circumstances those who interpreted their verdicts should face the consequences.

“I have confirmed that those who did it know that what they have done is unlawful. That is why they couldn’t find anyone to sign the letters sent to EC and hence Moosa Manik signed them” said Riyaz.

Riyaz called the parliament to conduct in accordance with the law and if not the opposition will do what they must. “These unconstitutional acts will be investigated. There will be a day. We assure to the people that we will take the relevant action” said Riyaz.

Riyaz said that due to today’s situation the case of expelling the MPs cannot be delayed and the case should be investigated as soon as possible. He said that it is a huge responsibility upon the Supreme Court. “If the case is delayed, people will express concerns about the judiciary” said Riyaz.

Riyaz said that he believes that the Supreme Court should review the cases in the same speed they do when the government files a case. He said that if not the people will be unhappy. “ If things does not finish on time people will take to the streets. We will not give people chance to do this” said Riyaz.
