The oath of office for state positions mandates obeying the constitution : Qasim
JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim have said that the oath of office for state positions mandates obeying the constitution.

Speaking at the rally held by the opposition tonight, Qasim said that if there is a problem in the constitution it should be amended through the parliament. He said that those in higher positions who cannot execute the duties in accordance with the law should resign.

Qasim said that even if we heed example from the Quran, it is known that there is no room for oppression in Islam. He said that those who oppress will be punished by Allah.

In addition Qasim said that detaining someone is a huge deal and that it can be done only after considering everything very well. “Before remanding people everything should be taken into account. If you have to spend even one day in the cell where I was detained then you will know how it feels” said Qasim.

Furthermore, he said that from the Supreme Court verdict it is very clear how parliament members can be removed from their positions and other institutions declared some seats vacant, unlawfully. He said that when the SC reaches a verdict in the case, he believes that none of the members will lose their seats.

“The Supreme Court verdict is very clear. It says that those members who left their parties before the verdict will not lose their seats. As far as I know the Chief Justice is not in Maldives at the moment. I am sure that once he is back we will attain justice. Once Supreme Court accepts the cas before the Supreme Court makes any decisions regarding these cases no one else can make decisions that a related to these members” said Qasim.

Qasim said that the people want a system where powers are separated and they want the state institutions to remain steadfast in their work.
