The allegations that the Supreme Court justices were bribed to issue the verdict of 1st February is highly questionable.
Firstly the verdict was issued with signatures of the whole bench of 5 members. However only two judges were arrested for accepting bribes. Why did the other three judges sign ? President Yameen said that, the Supreme Court planned to issue verdicts to impeach the president after 1st February but they could not do it because Chief Justice and Ali Hameed could not get the support of the other three judges.
So based on this, we can say that these three judges are free of corruption and just. Hence we should question why they signed the verdict of 1st February. Why did they not refuse to sign the verdict like they did later, because according to what the President have said, if they refused to do it that 1st February verdict could not have been issued.
The Chief Justice was Abdullah Saeed when the first court order was issued as well. If he influenced the judges in the first place, why couldn’t he do it later as well. Did the bribery not work on all other cases ? The Chief Justice was detained on 5th February and hence why was he not able to ‘influence’ the judges like he apparently did after 1st February ?
So, one might question whether the Supreme Court judges were influenced before or now. So this should be investigated in an academic manner. The Supreme Court justices are not suspected of simple things, because this will have implications on the whole justice system. Even the President questioned whether the Supreme Court might not change any previous verdicts tomorrow.
The same thing happened during MDP administration as well. Even now people have not been able to move on from the doubts MDP created about the judiciary and the religious scholars. While they were in that situation the whole judiciary is faced with a huge problem and it will be hard to overcome it. President Yameen has already raised issue. “How do we know Supreme Court Orders will not Change tomorrow?”
