Armenian airline Shirak Avia is preparing to introduce weekly flights between Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, and Malé, offering another air travel option for visitors travelling to the Maldives during the upcoming winter tourist season.
The service is scheduled to begin on 14 November 2026 and continue until the end of March 2027, with flights operating once a week, every Saturday.
Flights will depart from Yerevan and make a technical stop in Muscat, Oman, before continuing to Malé. The route will be served by Boeing 737-800 aircraft as part of Shirak Avia’s seasonal expansion to additional destinations during the winter period.
The new service comes as the Maldives prepares for the peak tourism season, when international airlines typically increase flight frequencies to meet rising demand for travel to the island nation.
Meanwhile, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced plans to allocate Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport, previously known as the International Terminal, to accommodate some airlines during the upcoming winter season.
Under the arrangement, 10 airlines will transfer their operations to Terminal 2 to help manage the expected increase in international flights and passenger traffic.
MACL said the move would enable both terminals at Velana International Airport to handle international services during periods of peak tourist arrivals. The arrangement is also expected to provide more space, additional check-in counters and a smoother experience for passengers.
As the Maldives continues to expand its aviation connectivity to support the tourism industry, MACL said it remains committed to ensuring safe, comfortable and convenient airport services for all visitors travelling to the country.
