Parliament of the Maldives has passed to grant authority to presidential commissions.
The bill was passed with votes from 67 members of the parliament. No member voted against the bill.
The bill was submitted to the 18th parliament as well, however on the day of the voting due to insufficient quorum, the bill was not passed. At the time many people criticized the parliament.
The president formed a commission to investigate murders and disappeared people and a commission to investigate corruption. It was a presidential pledge to empower these two commissions.
Previously, the President of the commission on investigating murders, Husnu Al Suood said that they have found the motive of some cases and some cases have been investigated but they cannot send it to PG for prosecution because they do not have the authority to do so.
