The Maldives has stepped up efforts to attract greater Japanese investment, showcasing the country's expanding business opportunities and investor-friendly reforms during a high-level business webinar organised in collaboration with Japanese partners.

The webinar, held jointly by the Maldives Embassy in Japan and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), brought together government officials, diplomats, development partners and members of Japan's business community to explore new avenues for economic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking during the event, Maldives Ambassador to Japan Ahmed Mahloof described the Maldives as a rapidly developing destination offering investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors. He said the Government is committed to creating a transparent, predictable and investor-friendly business environment through ongoing legal and administrative reforms aimed at strengthening the investment framework and boosting foreign investor confidence.

Ambassador Mahloof noted that the webinar was designed to familiarise Japanese businesses with the Maldives' evolving business landscape, recent policy reforms and emerging investment opportunities. He thanked JETRO for its support in organising the event and expressed hope that the discussions would encourage greater participation from Japanese investors.

He also reaffirmed that the Maldives Embassy in Japan stands ready to support prospective investors by connecting them with relevant government agencies, facilitating business engagement and providing information on available investment opportunities. The webinar featured addresses by Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam, Ambassador Ahmed Mahloof and the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives. Representatives from JETRO, Japan's Ministry of Economy and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also participated, reflecting the broad institutional support behind efforts to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

In her remarks, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam reaffirmed the Maldivian Government's commitment to further strengthening relations with Japan, stressing that enhancing economic and investment cooperation remains a key priority. He voiced optimism that the event would pave the way for stronger commercial partnerships and increased Japanese investment in the country.

This year also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Japan.
