Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Yahya bin Hassan Al-Qahtani has underscored the need to empower young people and develop their leadership capabilities, saying youth will play a vital role in shaping the country’s future.
The Ambassador made the remarks at the closing ceremony of a Youth Leadership Training Course held at the Male’ Youth Hub from 4 to 6 August.
The three-day programme was organised by the Scout Association of Maldives and the First Male’ Scout Group of Majeedhiyya School under a Youth Leadership and Membership Growth project. The initiative is being carried out under World Scouting and the World Scout Foundation’s Messengers of Peace Fund, with financial support from the Saudi government.
Fifty young people between the ages of 17 and 25 took part in the training. The programme was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to take on future leadership roles and high-level positions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Ambassador Qahtani said young people are central to national development. He stressed that investing in youth through leadership training can bring wide-ranging benefits to the country.
The Youth Leadership Training Course is part of an international programme conducted by Scout organisations in countries around the world. This year’s programme marked the first time the course was held in the Maldives.
According to the Scout Association of Maldives, participants were trained in areas including decision-making at different levels, leadership, teamwork, initiative and other skills considered essential for effective leadership.
The Association said the initiative will continue, with plans to organise additional leadership camps in different parts of the Maldives under the Youth Leadership and Membership Growth project.
