People’s National Congress (PNC) Chair and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah has said that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is a patriotic leader who deeply loves the country and should be given a second term in office.
Speaking at a special session held to inaugurate the PNC’s Congress, Abdul Raheem said that when the party held its first Congress, it had only around 3,000 members. However, through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of its members, the party has now grown to nearly 80,000 members and has transformed into a major political force.
The PNC Chair said the main reason more than 79,000 members had joined the party within such a short period was because the PNC has always placed the country first.
He also said President Dr Muizzu is a leader who regards every inch of Maldivian territory as a trust and that Maldivians have rallied behind him because they believe in his patriotic vision.
Emphasising the importance of safeguarding the red line of the Maldives’ independence and sovereignty, Abdul Raheem said no foreign power would be allowed to undermine those principles. He said it was important to give President Muizzu a second term so that he could continue developing the Maldives as an independent and sovereign nation.
He further said that no other group would be allowed to dictate what happens on Maldivian soil and that the people were prepared to make sacrifices for the country.
Abdul Raheem also noted that a prediction he made at the party’s first Congress — that the PNC would win the 2023 presidential election — had become a reality. He said the party was now attending its second Congress as the ruling party.
According to Abdul Raheem, the PNC’s real work had only just begun. He said that by working with the strength and enthusiasm the party currently possesses, President Dr Muizzu would be able to win the 2028 presidential election with greater ease than in 2023.
