Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has said that granting President Dr Mohamed Muizzu a second term is essential to maintaining stability in the Maldives, continuing the country’s development, and preserving the strong Islamic foundation upon which the Maldivian state is built.
The Vice President made the remarks while expressing his support for a special resolution submitted at the People’s National Congress (PNC) National Congress, formally calling on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to contest the 2028 presidential election.
President of the People’s Majlis and PNC President Abdul Raheem Abdullah also attended the gathering.
Explaining his support for the resolution, Vice President Latheef said President Muizzu is the leader who can ensure the country’s stability, development and security while preserving the Islamic values that have shaped the Maldives for centuries.
“The most important reason I support this resolution is that our beloved President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will ensure the stability, development and security of this country. He has begun laying the foundation for preserving the high Islamic blessing that has carried our nation forward for more than 900 years, and for ensuring that this continues for generations to come.”
He said the administration has begun establishing a new generation and putting in place measures that can continue for many years, with the aim of laying a strong foundation for the future of the country.
According to Vice President Latheef, President Muizzu understands the importance of ensuring that the Maldives remains on the path of Islamic guidance and has begun taking steps to establish a foundation that will preserve this identity for future generations.
He further described the fact that the Maldives has remained an Islamic nation for more than 900 years as a source of strength for Maldivian national identity.
Vice President Latheef said preserving this identity and ensuring the continued stability and development of the country are among the reasons he believes President Muizzu should be given a second term.
