People’s Majlis Deputy Speaker and PNC Member for the Eydhafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem has said that the measures being implemented by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu are benefiting not only wealthy individuals but the Maldivian public as a whole.
Speaking at the ongoing National Congress of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), Saleem said one of the main reasons he supported the resolution calling for President Muizzu to seek a second term was that the President continues to work alongside the people.
Saleem noted that President Muizzu has been visiting islands across the country and meeting with large numbers of ordinary citizens, while also closely observing their circumstances.
He said the President has been meeting with various committees and associations, allowing him to directly assess the situation across the country. Saleem added that the President has also been taking steps, within the limits of the law and through his own initiatives, to address the circumstances and needs of the people.
Saleem, a prominent Maldivian businessman, said that at times governments and senior government officials had been perceived as being under the influence of business interests.
However, he said the current situation demonstrates that President Muizzu is governing the country without being under the influence or control of any particular businessperson.
Saleem further said the measures introduced by President Muizzu are not designed to benefit only a small number of wealthy individuals. Instead, he said, the benefits of these initiatives are intended to reach Maldivian citizens more broadly.
