President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said there are opportunities to invest in developing new skills for the Maldives’ tourism industry.
The President made the remarks in a social media post shared on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
In his message, President Muizzu extended greetings to everyone working to establish the Maldives as a globally recognised and popular tourist destination, as well as to communities across the islands and all those involved in the tourism industry.
The President said tourism remains a key pillar of national development and international connectivity. He noted that the industry is undergoing significant changes driven by digital technology and artificial intelligence, and stressed the importance of adapting to these changes, advancing alongside them and embracing new innovations.
President Muizzu said the Maldives is placing importance on welcoming new innovations, investing in skills development and making use of digital resources to further strengthen the country’s tourism industry and enhance the services provided to visitors.
He also emphasised the need to work together to make the best use of opportunities offered by the digital era while preserving the Maldives’ natural beauty, unique characteristics and cherished tradition of hospitality.
World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27. The day highlights the importance of tourism to economic and social development.
In the Maldives, tourism is a major pillar of the national economy. Over more than five decades, the country’s tourism industry has undergone significant developments and transformations.
