Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has urged young Maldivians to take the initiative and play an active role in the country’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
The Vice President made the remarks while speaking as the guest of honour at the Villa College Student Achievement Awards ceremony, where he highlighted the important contribution graduates can make to national development as skilled and productive members of society.
Congratulating students who received special recognition for their achievements, Vice President Hussain said graduates should put the knowledge and skills they have gained through their education to practical use by developing innovative solutions to challenges facing the country.
He noted that while some graduates are already contributing to the workforce, others are preparing to begin their professional careers. Their fresh ideas and innovative approaches, he said, will be important in improving the quality of services delivered by both public and private institutions.
The Vice President also highlighted President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of transforming the Maldives into a developed country by 2040. He called on young people to take an active role in achieving the national objective, describing it as a shared aspiration that requires the contribution of every citizen.
"To achieve this vision, the assistance of all of you is required," Vice President Hussain said. "In particular, young people must take the initiative, utilise innovative thinking, and personally participate in this endeavour."
He said the large number of graduates entering society reflects the importance placed on education in addressing the country’s challenges. He encouraged graduates to make effective use of modern technologies and strengthen their technical expertise as they advance in their respective careers.
Concluding his address, Vice President Hussain praised Villa College for its achievements and expressed appreciation to its founder, Qasim Ibrahim, and the college administration for their contributions to the institution’s development.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of the Qasim Ibrahim Award for Excellence to outstanding graduates by the Vice President.
