President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef have pledged continued Government support for teachers, stressing the importance of ensuring educators have the resources, working conditions and recognition needed to fulfil their vital role.
The President and Vice President made the remarks in separate messages shared on social media to mark World Teachers’ Day, observed internationally on 5 October.
President Muizzu paid tribute to teachers for their knowledge, dedication and lasting influence in shaping young minds, noting that educators play a crucial role in helping children navigate an increasingly changing world.
He expressed gratitude for their service, sacrifices and commitment to the future of the nation, while stressing that the Government has a responsibility to provide teachers with the support and conditions necessary to perform their duties effectively.
The President said the Government will prioritise teacher wellbeing, work to reduce excessive workloads and improve working conditions, while strengthening inclusive education and expanding teachers’ capacity to support children with disabilities.
He also called for greater recognition of the teaching profession and continued investment in educators, with the aim of building an education system in which every teacher receives the support needed to help every child reach their full potential.
Vice President Hussain also highlighted the importance of valuing, supporting and empowering teachers as the profession evolves in response to new challenges.
He said teachers guide, inspire and shape the future of both children and the nation, adding that their dedication and commitment deserve the gratitude and continued support of society.
The Vice President stressed that as the responsibilities and challenges facing teachers continue to evolve, it is essential to ensure they have the necessary support to carry out their duties effectively.
He described continued support for teachers as an investment in the nation’s future.
World Teachers’ Day is observed every year on 5 October. The day was first celebrated in 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organisation and UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
