President calls for faster completion of major development projects

The Government has reviewed the progress of major development projects being implemented across the Maldives, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu calling for greater efforts to overcome delays and ensure projects are completed on schedule.

A special meeting was held at the President’s Office, bringing together Cabinet ministers, senior government officials and representatives of relevant state institutions and companies. The discussions focused on the current status of key projects and measures needed to speed up their implementation.

Ministers reviewed both ongoing and planned development projects, while examining financial, technical and administrative challenges that have affected progress. The meeting also explored practical and sustainable solutions to address these obstacles and prevent further delays.

Strengthening coordination between government ministries, agencies and companies was another key area discussed, with emphasis placed on ensuring that all parties work towards the same objectives and timelines.

President Muizzu stressed that projects pledged to the public must be delivered to a high standard, while maintaining cost efficiency and ensuring quality.

He also called for stronger monitoring mechanisms to track the progress of individual projects, with priority projects to receive closer oversight throughout their implementation.

The President instructed Cabinet ministers to take steps to accelerate projects that have stalled and to introduce solutions to challenges arising from the current external environment.

He further urged greater commitment, determination and cooperation among the relevant authorities to ensure that major development projects are completed within their designated timeframes and deliver the intended benefits to the public.
