Human Rights Commission of the Maldives have stated that the elderly population is increasing in the Maldives.
In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day for Older Persons, the commission stated that it is important to create an environment where the elderly people can leady healthy lifestyles and that it is important to use their experience to create national policies.
HRCM also praised the government for their policies regarding elderly people. Policies highlighted in the statement includes, the mechanism where elderly people can consult doctors without queuing, and doctors visiting elderly people in their homes. In addition, the statement also highlighted the recent decision by the government to take action against people who work in state owned companies and the Civil Service if their parents are in the state owned home for elderly people.
