Fisheries Minister Dr.Shainee have said that even though the SAFTA agreement, does not benefit Maldives, the free trade agreement with China will benefit Maldives.
He said that more than 80 percent of the exports by Maldives are fish based products. Dr.Shainee said that the FTA will allow Maldives to export fish to China at zero tariff and hence it will benefit the whole economy.
Dr.Shainee said that the opposition keeps talking about the free trade agreement with China just like another political matter and that they have not been able to show how this will have a negative impact on Maldives.
He said that many countries establish free trade agreement with other countries.
Even if SAFTA agreement did not benefit Maldives, China FTA will benefit Maldives : Dr.Shainee
