Russia’s largest private airline, Azimuth Airlines, has decided to begin flights to the Maldives. It will be the first airline from a Russian region outside Moscow to launch flights to the Maldives.
The flights are scheduled to begin on the 30th of next month. The airline is scheduled to operate flights from Novosibirsk, Russia, to Velana International Airport. According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Azimuth will operate these flights twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. The flights will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft.
In connection with the launch of these flights, Russian tour operator TEZ TOUR has also begun selling special packages. Customers who book early will receive discounts of up to 50 percent on accommodation.
The flights were made possible following a visit to Russia by Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen. The Minister has said that another seven airlines are expected to begin flights to the Maldives in the final quarter of this year.
Russia is the second-largest source market for tourists visiting the Maldives. So far this year, 222,796 tourists from Russia have visited the Maldives. This accounts for 14.7 percent of the total number of tourists who have visited the Maldives during the period.
