Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid have said that the government has not decided to pull out from the free trade agreement made with China.
Speaking at a press conference held today at the ministry, Shahid said that so far it is not clear how much Maldives owes China. Meanwhile MMA also stated that it is not clear how much the government has given sovereign guarantee to state owned companies to take loans from foreign banks.
In addition foreign minister said that the government is planning to send delegations to some countries to strengthen relations with some countries. He said that a delegation will visit India next week and delegations will visit China, UAE and Saudi Arabia as well.
Shahid said that the main pillars of the President’s foreign policy will be democracy, human rights and climate diplomacy. He said that hence the role of Maldives will be expanding, and Maldives will take part in ensuring world peace. He said that Maldives will increase its role in working with neighbors to ensure stability in the Indian ocean.
